Ergin Atalar

Biographical sketch

Ergin Atalar was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1961. He received B.S. degree from Bogazici University, in 1985, M. S. Degree from Middle East Technical University, in 1987, Ph.D. degree from Bilkent University in 1991, all in Electrical Engineering.

Immediately after graduation he joined to the Johns Hopkins University, where currently he is Professor of Radiology, Biomedical Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of Center for Image Guided Interventions. Dr. Atalar is also with Bilkent University as a Visiting Professor of Electrical Engineering starting September 2002. He is also a founder of Surgi-Vision, Inc.

Dr. Atalar’s main research interests are endoluminal RF coil design, MRI-guided vascular interventions and MRI-guided prostate treatments. Dr. Atalar is currently Principle Investigator of NIH, US Army, and NSF supported research grants. He is co-investigator on various NIH, NSF and Whitaker Foundation grants.

He is married to Selale, and father of Melis and Deniz.
